A SGIIC (asset management company for collective investment institutions) is the entity authorized by the CNMV to manage funds and investment companies. It appears in tokenization because, when what is tokenized are shares in a collective investment institution, management remains reserved for an authorized entity.
A SGIIC is a key term to understand regulated tokenization in Spain. Here it is explained clearly.
What is a SGIIC
A SGIIC (collective investment institution management company) is the entity authorized by the CNMV to manage funds and investment companies (collective investment institutions). It is the one that can manage, and where appropriate tokenize, the shares of a fund.
If you manage a fund and want to tokenize its shares, the SGIIC is the authorized piece of the puzzle, together with the ERIR that registers the securities. We frame it in what is a collective investment institution and in the pillar guide on asset tokenization.
